MAZE QUESTIONS:
How is the corn maze created?
We debate the design of the maze every year for about 6 months, and then we let Jim Anderson have his way. Our maze designer, Shawn Stolworthy of Mazeplay in Firth, ID comes out to our farm every year in early June and cuts the maze. Shawn is the person with the GPS technical know-how to actually get the maze designed and cut when the corn is 6” tall. He puts the satellite dish and computer on his tractor and goes to work. It takes only ONE day to cut our 30-acre corn maze with its 7.8 miles of trail!!
How big is the maze?
The maze consists of 3 separate mazes. Together they total 7.8 miles of trail across 30 acres. To put that into perspective, an acre is a little smaller than a football field!
How do you play the maze game?
Each maze contains 6 numbered stations that correspond to the numbered boxes at the bottom of the maze map that you receive at the ticket booth. When you arrive at a maze station, use the paper punch attached to the post to punch the correct box on your map. Race other members of your party to complete all the punches!
How long will it take to go through the maze?
As long as you want! If you're especially good at figuring out the maze or reading the maze maps, you can speed right through the game. If you are playing the maze game without the map, it can take up to two hours. We recommend that you plan on spending as much time in the maze as you’d like.
Is the maze open at night?
Yes, all you need is a flashlight. Flashlights are available for purchase if you forget yours.
Is the maze haunted?
No, the maze is not haunted. However, beware of the customers that are trying to haunt the maze at night.
Are strollers allowed in the maze?
Yes, strollers are allowed in the maze. But, be aware that the ground is dirt, it is not flat and it can be muddy.
What else can I do besides the maze?
Don’t forget to take a wagon ride out to Animal Acres to see the larger farm animals and then to the pumpkin patch to find your very own perfect pumpkin. Take rides on the barrel train and the mine cars. Try your talents at solving the finger mazes, play in the playground and get some lovin’ from the animals. Go back in time & pan for gem stones & fossils at our Gem Mining Sluice. Eat a great lunch and/or dinner at the concession stand. Also, visit our general store where you’ll find handcrafts, postal impressions, jams, jellies, toys, and more. Many of the products found in the general store are made by our own crew as well.
GENERAL QUESTIONS:
What's the history of Anderson Farms?
The Anderson Family purchased Anderson Farms in 1958. This was a trade for land that the state took from their farm, about 9 miles north, to put in I-25. The crops grown on the farm are wheat, barley, hay, corn for cattle, and pumpkins. In 1997 Jim Anderson opened up the farm for hayrides to the pumpkin patch. Two years later in 1999, he created the first corn maze in Colorado! From there, he built Anderson Farms into a year round agri-tourism business with catered events, weddings, field trips and the Annual Fall Festival with a pumpkin patch, corn maze & haunted attraction. In 2007, Jim's daughter & son-in-law, Rachelle & Michael Wegele joined the business. Michael keeps busy farming & maintaining the farm, while Rachelle takes care of the business side. This truly is a family farm!
Who sponsors the corn maze?
We don't have sponsors; however many people and local businesses are involved in making the maze a success.
Are dogs allowed on the farm?
No, dogs are not allowed on the farm, except for service animals.
